NEW: Monthly Helpful Hint

I just received a fan call from an admirer on my Cookbook, and she asked me to give a helpful hint or suggestion each month on our website. For those of you who are unable to attend the major boat shows where I give my seminars on the galley, here are my very top of the lists DO’s and Dont's.

I would like to share with you my stead-fast THREE most important principles in cruising life: Safety at sea.

First, NO SCHEDULES. When you get to your destination, call the folks you would like to have them join you. Don’t put yourself on a schedule, it surely will become a major problem and trouble.

Next, using the Revere ware tea kettle. Not cutesy, but functional no accidents with this tea kettle. You can fill the kettle using one hand and empty the hot water as well. By that I mean pouring hot water through the same spout by pulling back on the trigger which is part of the main handle. Stay away from moving handles, spout ends that one needs a pot holder to remove from hot kettle.

Third, The pressure cooker has come alive and well again ready for the 21st century. I know you hear the stories such as: my mom blew hers up, etc., etc., fear no more; they are easy to use, fast in cooking and save precious fuel. Using a pressure cooker you will cook flavor and nutrition into foods, instead of out of them. I recommend a 6 quart size in stainless steel. I have a entire chapter in "The Cruising KISS Cookbook II" on how to maximize your enjoyment and some terrific recipes as well.

On a pleasant note; I’d like to quote Betsy Hitz Holman, "We didn’t go cruising to escape life, we went cruising to keep life from escaping us."
